What Are The Benefits Of A 21 Day Gut Cleanse?

Here at Witterings Fitness we run a 21-day gut cleanse. This is a popular program aimed at improving digestion and overall gut health. The program is focused around eliminating common foods that may be contributing to gut inflammation and introducing foods that support gut health. A gut cleanse can be mentally challenging, so it's important to have good support and community around you when taking part.

Why is a Gut Cleanse Important?

The gut is a complex ecosystem and is home to microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi, and viruses. The gut microbiome helps with maintaining overall health, including regulating the immune system, producing essential nutrients, and protecting against harmful bacteria.

However, if you have an imbalanced gut microbiome it can lead to various health problems. These can include digestive issues, inflammation, and even chronic diseases. Factors such as a poor diet, stress, and antibiotic use can disrupt the delicate balance of the gut microbiome.

A gut cleanse is a way to reset the gut microbiome and promote the growth of beneficial bacteria. Which in turn can help reduce inflammation, improve digestion, and enhance overall health and wellbeing.


How to Do a 21-Day Gut Cleanse
The 21-day gut cleanse involves following a specific nutritional plan that eliminates certain foods and introduces others.

Here are the key steps we follow: (This doesn't include everything you will follow on the program)
  • Eliminate certain foods: Eliminating foods that can contribute to inflammation and disrupt gut health. Such as processed foods, sugar, alcohol, caffeine, dairy, gluten, and soy.
  • Focus on whole foods: Instead, focus on eating a variety of whole foods that support gut health, such as fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Leafy greens, berries, avocado, salmon, nuts, and seeds etc.
  • Drink plenty of water: Staying hydrated is essential for proper digestion and overall health. During the cleanse the aim is to drink at least 4 litres of water per day.
  • Manage stress: Stress can disrupt gut health, so it's essential to manage stress levels during the gut cleanse. We will help you practice stress-reducing techniques such as meditation, yoga, or deep breathing exercises.
  • Get enough sleep: Sleep is crucial for overall health, this includes gut health. Aim for at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night.
  • Exercise regularly: Regular exercise can help improve gut health and reduce inflammation. Aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise per day. This can just be going for a 30 minute walk, or stretching.

To do the Gut Cleanse you do not need to be a member at Witterings Fitness, you will still receive the same benefits and support. The 21 day will be fully led by one of our experienced coaches, who you can turn to with any questions or concerns. You will join our community of members doing it who will support and encourage you the whole way through.

The Gut Cleanse can be completed remotely, but participants would benefit from following the Witterings Fitness exercise training programme concurrently (which can also be joined remotely).
